Learning Telugu via YouTube

Good find!  To date, my time on YouTube had been limited only to viewing links sent by friends, every so often.  But in my frustration for not having any Telugu resources for our daughter, I searched and was psyched to come across some songs and rhymes.  They’re often referred to as Telugu nursery rhymes, but in my brief survey of friends, no one had learned these songs growing up.

We don’t particularly like our daughter having too much screentime, so we’ll usually just listen.  They are all catchy and fun enough for a non-Telugu speaker (me!) to get them stuck in my head and likely catch myself humming or singing them later in the day.  Below are some of our current favorites.

Telugu Nursery Rhymes Inthai Anthai Nannanthai is our very favorite song. It’s very catchy, and just at the first few notes, peanut starts smiling, clapping and dancing. It’s about what to be when you grow up. Telugu Nursery Rhymes Hallulu Kakha Gagha is also catchy, even for a non-Telugu speaker! I would love a translation for either… anyone?

Both okati okati okati maanavulantha okati and okati okati ikati rhyme.flv helped mom learn Telugu numbers, and I’m sure peanut isn’t far behind. One bummer is that the second one cuts off in the middle of the verse about #10.

Add them to your favorites and playlists and enjoy!  And please share your favorites, as well.
